About

About us

In February 2006,  dance teacher Julie Campbell's Thursday night belly dance class was asked to perform at Whitehawk Pride's Cabaret Night. The performers thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were a huge hit on the night. So much so Julie suggested they set themselves up as a community group and apply for funding. With support in setting up from the Whitehawk Inn, BD4U became a constituted group in July 2007.

Funding has come from the Scarman Trust and eb4U Community Grants for workshops, costumes, music and training.

Our aim is to provide residents in Brighton and Hove and its environs with the opportunity to improve their physical and mental health through belly dancing and have fun while doing it! Everyone is welcome to join, dancers and non dancers.

We organise belly dance related events, such as workshops where members who attend belly dance classes can brush up on their skills and learn new ones, trips to Fantasia (a belly dance festival in London and haflas (dance parties) where people can come and enjoy themselves in a relaxed environment. We also organise other workshops eg. jive and burlesque  ones, we hold regular meetings and perform at events in the local community.

You don't have to dance to join us, members with other skills such as photography, art  and bookkeeping are always welcome! Or maybe you'd like to come and support us at an event.
